The Forbidden Legend Sex & Chopsticks (2008) – Storyline/Plot:

Story is begin with the childhood of rich and powerful Simon Qing (Lam Wai-Kin) has been schooled in the ways of sex by his virile father (Tsui Siu-Keung), but is still a virgin. That is, until he meets his first love Violetta, who has fun with him all over his father’s estate. Their love does not last, so Simon embarks on a journey to, um, do something. Along the way he meets the comely nun Moon, who observes his manhood one evening by poking at it with a pair of chopsticks – thus earning the film it’s English title. Simon deflowers her and marries her, after which he becomes enamored of the small-footed Golden Lotus, who’s married to dwarf and poor Wu Da-Lang. The two conspire to get rid of him, setting up another marriage for Simon.

Fear not, though: for those looking for sex and nudity – and why else would you be interested – “Sex & Chopsticks” delivers. I was surprised to find it has any literary basis at all: it’s hard to imagine the screenplay this was made from, let alone a classic story. The main character, apparently an arch anti-hero in the original, here just wants to get laid, and after you see the lengths his father, a “sexologist”, goes toward making him ready – including training him to do penis push ups! – you can hardly begrudge him that.

This film was the first time I watched when I was in high school or in the early days when I was in college (I forgot). The first time I watched it I thought it would be the same as Sex and Zen movies, a Chinese film set in dynastic times and full of semi-sex scenes. Actually after I watched the movie, I had forgotten the title… At least until the day I made this review, while scrolling through Instagram, there was an account that reviewed a film called Wu Song (same story but told from the point of view of Wu Dalang and Wu Song).

From there, I realized that there was a similarity in the story when Wu Dalang’s wife dropped the wooden shutters. I immediately searched about this film (remember! I forgot the title) and it turns out that they have the same name. But I wonder because the story in the movie ends when they just get married? and it turns out there is a second film! Immediately after I re-watched this film, I continued to watch the second film.

Ok, now enough to tell about the background of the story. Now I will review it,
Story : My personal opinion about this film is that it’s good.. not too bad.. I just felt weird when I saw it for the first time, a father who taught his son how the feeling of “broken hurt” and the child immediately agreed? ?. And the moment when he did NTR (Netorare; a Japanese manga genre that tells about infidelity), DAMN! Because this is a film that tells the story from Ximen’s point of view, the first time I watched it I felt “that’s ok”. But when I watched Wu Song’s movie review, “oh boy.. why did u do that?”. Well… I guess.. the POV of a character in the story is really important, huh? ?

The movie doesn’t really have a story, it’s just our (anti?)hero going from one beautiful woman to the next, all of whom end up naked. The title is presumably an attempt to link this movie to the ’90s HK blockbuster, “Sex and Zen”, but it’s not as madcap or as memorable as that one was.
